Care Net, Partners deliver new dormitory, WASH facility for Hohoe SHS girls
Care Net Ghana and its partners, AEXCID, SED, DIPUTACION HUELA, have brought hope and comfort to the female students of Hohoe E.P Senior High School (HEPSS) in the Volta Region by jointly financing the construction of a new 800-capacity girls’ dormitory. The project also includes sanitary and bathroom facilities, marking a significant improvement in the living conditions for the girls.
Due to overcrowding, many of the girls had taken to the bare floor and their classrooms as makeshift spaces, exposing them to the vulnerabilities of the harsh weather. Now, their joy is immeasurable as they express relief when the doors to the newly completed dormitory opened, with an assured rest in safety and comfort.
The dormitory promises not just a better night’s sleep but also a brighter academic future. The new facility frees up classroom space, enabling the school to focus more on academic activities while giving the girls a sense of dignity and security.
Patrick Ahumah, Executive Director of Care Net Ghana, recounted how the Parent-Teachers Association urgently raised the need for a girls’ dormitory, prompting Care Net and its partners to respond swiftly. He praised the unwavering support of their donors, stating, “Today, we have transformed the dream of a safe and nurturing living space for our girls into a tangible reality.”
Headmaster of HEPSS, Franklin Amesimeku, described the new dormitory’s impact, especially on the well-being of the girls who had suffered for too long. He expressed gratitude but requested more support to furnish the dormitory with metal beds.
The girls shared their excitement, knowing they could now focus fully on their studies without worry. The Municipal Chief Executive for Hohoe, Noble Awume, lauded the efforts of the donors, noting that this project complements the government’s free SHS policy and furthers the goal of accessible education for all.
The Gbi Traditional Authority added a final note of pride, urging the school to maintain the facility and ensure it serves generations of young women.
